new and different creations

i have been musing about using less adhesive so i tried to do some cards with staples and old coffee bean bags from my friend brenda, owner of sauvie island coffee company. i also like the mixture of textures with the bags, corrugated cardboard, cardstock, and a clothespin.

this one has sparkly tissue paper as a heart along with staples holding down the oil cloth. i was having great fun and it was fun to put these together as they felt easy and simple and a bit thrown together.this one has a metal washer with the word love on it, staples, hemp twine and corrugated cardboard. fun, fun, fun! send a card today!

fan mail in my mailbox!

i reconnected with friends from high school and grade school last weekend at the ol' 25th high school reunion and i was complaining that people didn't send cards anymore and my very fun friend kelly has graced my mailbox with two cards in the last week. this one totally made my day and i am so thrilled that she has proven me wrong!

despite the closures of post offices and raises in postage...remember to send a card to a friend today! it will make their day, i guarantee it!

besos!

these tags say 'besos' which means kisses in spanish and sending those out to the great women who took time to talk with me about selling my cards in their shops (shout out to Lisa at Butterscotch and Sarah at POSH!). retail vs. wholesale and the whole idea of a 'business' was truly fascinating and i was thrilled with their suggestions, thoughts, and ideas. i feel like i am at a crossroads with where to go next and how to focus my business so this was a great day to have this opportunity.

big thanks also to julia from litmus design + architecture for her creative suggestions and some ideas on how to use sauvie island and all its wonder inspiration and ideas.
and, as always, a special thanks to my favorite typewriter shop who put in a new ribbon for only $5. am in search of a spanish language typewriter for a spanish line of cards!
send a card this weekend. it will make someone smile!

dressy, dressier, dressiest!

i have dreamed of putting cards together with oil cloth and here are some samples! aren't they cute!? i love the checks with the polka dots!

this one is a bit random but love the oil cloth - it reminds me of a tablecloth my grandmother had in the day!

this one is a bit different as it is with sparkly silver paper instead of oil cloth but i did this for a woman who owns a dress shop in portland and she wanted thank you cards.

Florence

This picture is my absolute favorite of my grandmothers. It was August 16, 1964 at the wedding of my parents. The fun thing is that both of my grandmothers were named Florence and their birthdays both in March.

Today is my grandma's birthday (the one on the left) and her typewriter is what I use for my cards. She loved getting mail and we have recently gone through her 'saved' letters and there were so many that she kept from every special event in her life. I think she knew her mailman's name and life story and loved to be remembered via mail.

I miss her every day and hope that she knows we would be writing letters to her still.

Remember your grandmother today or anyone else that has been an important force in your life.

Tile and Error!

So, I have been experimenting with other products aside from cards and here is an attempt at a tile that I made. It has retro bowling balls and pins on it with the quote, "We must have a passion in life." (George Sand) I think they're pretty hip and hope to get some produced for a sale in Eugene on February 18th.

Let me know what you think and don't forget to send a card now and then!
